The first of three photos of Tesla in the office of Victor Beam (left), patent counsel, Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company. The subject of the visit was an alternator that had escaped destruction in Tesla's laboratory fire in 1895. The Westinghouse Company had borrowed the alternator, but the fire disaster so absorbed Tesla's efforts in reestablishing his laboratory that the machine was forgotten
